Rocky View County, Alberta – (11:32 AM) Airdrie RCMP remains on scene at a multi-vehicle collision on Highway 2 north of Veterans Blvd at Hwy 72 in Rocky View County. One lane heading Northbound is now open, and traffic is moving through the area slowly.
Delays are expected to continue until all lanes are open. Road conditions are still poor, and police continue to recommend that drivers avoid travelling if possible. If travel is unavoidable, please exercise caution and drive according to the road conditions.

BACKGROUND
Rocky View County, Alberta – Airdrie RCMP, the RCMP Collision reconstructionist, EMS and area fire departments all remain on scene of a multi-vehicle collision on Highway 2 north of Veterans Blvd at Hwy 72 in Rocky View County.
At 10:10 p.m. Dec.27, 2022 Airdrie RCMP, Airdrie Traffic Services and RCMP Criminal Collision Investigative Team (CCIT) responded to reports of 15 to 20 vehicles involved in a collision approximately 2km north of Veterans Blvd along Hwy 2 at Hwy 72.
Preliminary information has determined that a commercial vehicle including a trailer, along with five sedan cars, four pickup trucks, three SUV’s and a passenger van were involved in this incident.
Details of the cause of the collision remain under investigation, primary factors appearing to be weather and road conditions. As a result of this collision injuries were reported resulting in nine passengers from various vehicles being transported by ground ambulance to area hospitals for various non-life threatening conditions. One fatality was reported on scene.
RCMP will be on scene for the next several hours, motorists should expect delays. Traffic continues to be diverted from the area.
RCMP continue to warn the public of poor road conditions along Highway 2 south of Red Deer and north of Airdrie. Roads are snow covered and icy, and visibility is poor due to blowing snow and fog. RCMP recommend drivers avoid travel if possible. If travel is necessary motorists are being asked to slow down and adjust their driving to road conditions.

Airdrie RCMP on scene of multi vehicle collision and warn of poor road conditions
Rocky View County, Alta. – Airdrie RCMP, the RCMP Collision reconstructionist, EMS and area fire departments are currently on scene of a multi-vehicle collision on Highway 2 north of Veterans Blvd at Hwy 72 in Rocky View County.
First responders are assisting over a dozen vehicles involved in this event. Vehicle fires and injuries are reported.
Travel along Hwy 2 in the north bound lanes is closed at Veterans Blvd, motorists can expect delays for the next several hours. Traffic is being diverted north through Hwy 567.
Travel along Hwy 2 in the south bound lanes is flowing very slowly, with diversions being made to Hwy 72 and Hwy 806.
RCMP are asking that motorists do not travel in these areas at this time. Intense fog, icy road conditions and changing weather patterns are dramatically impacting the ability for motorists to see and allow for first responders to attend to those who require assistance.
