Lethbridge Police investigating second homicide of 2022

Lethbridge, Alberta – Lethbridge Police have charged a 59-year-old man with first degree murder in connection with the death of his wife.

On December 27, 2022 just after 11 p.m. police responded to a report of a disturbance at a home along the 2500 block of 13 Avenue North involving a male and female. Upon police arrival a male exited the home and was arrested without incident. Inside police located a critically injured female and began life-saving measures until EMS took over. The 59-year-old victim, later identified as Shelley Dragland, sustained multiple stab wounds and was declared deceased at the scene.

Investigation determined the couple had been seated together in the home when the male selected a knife from the kitchen and proceeded to stab the victim multiple times.

David Albert Dragland, 59, of Lethbridge, is charged with one count of first degree murder. Dragland was remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear in court January 3, 2023.
