UPDATE: Edmonton Police lay charge in October 2022 homicide

Edmonton, Alberta – A 28-year-old man has been charged in relation to a south-central homicide that took place last fall.

At approximately 11 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 7, 2022, Southwest Patrol officers responded to a residence in the area of 106 Street and 79 Avenue following a reported shooting. Upon arrival, officers located a male with serious injuries and provided emergency first-aid until paramedics arrived. The 37-year-old male was treated and transported to hospital by EMS, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner conducted an autopsy on Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2022, and determined that 37-year-old Sam McConnell died as a result of a gunshot wound and the manner of death is homicide.

On Saturday, Jan. 7, 2023, police arrested and charged Terrance Demarre, 28, with first-degree murder. Investigators have since confirmed that both men were known to one another.
