Overdue snowmobiler located deceased in the water near Anchor Point, NFLD

St. Anthony, Newfoundland and Labrador – A 46-year-old man, who was reported as being overdue on his snowmobile, was located deceased in a body of water near Anchor Point on January 21, 2023.

Shortly after 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, police received the report of the overdue snowmobiler who was traveling alone and was expected to be on his way home from a cabin near Eastern Brook Pond. Local residents were searching prior to the report to police.

At approximately 3:45 p.m., while officers were securing additional searchers, the man and his snowmobile were located in open water in a pond near Anchor Point.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner is engaged and the investigation is continuing.

St. Anthony RCMP thanks those who assisted in the search and recovery efforts and offers condolences to the man’s family and friends.
