Nisichawayasihk Cree Nation, Manitoba – On January 30, 2023, at 3:30 pm, Nelson House RCMP received a report of an overdue member of the community who had gone out on snowmobile, the day prior, and failed to return home.
Officers were advised that the 27-year-old male had left the community and was believed to be heading towards a camp located north of Nisichawayasihk Cree Nation.

A short time later, officers were advised that the body of the 27-year-old had been located deceased along the trail to the camp.
Officers on snowmobiles attended the scene. The investigation has determined that the snowmobile operator was travelling along the shoreline of Footprint Lake at a high rate of speed when he collided with a tree.
The snowmobile operator, who was wearing a helmet, was pronounced deceased on scene.
Nelson House RCMP continue to investigate.
