Central Alberta District Crime Reduction Unit arrest Edmonton male in stolen vehicle

Lac Ste. Anne County, Alberta – On Jan. 26, 2023, while searching for a different offender, officers from the RCMP Central Alberta District Crime Reduction Unit came upon a stolen vehicle. Utilizing covert vehicles RCMP Air and Dog Services, and officers from Parkland RCMP detachment and Crime Reduction Unit, officers were able to successfully deploy a spike belt. The suspect was not successful in attempting to drive with flat tires and became stuck in the ditch. After continued investigation, RCMP located a loaded sawed off shot gun, a loaded SKS rifle, bear spar and a machete in the vehicle.

Jason Wayne Norman (43), a resident of Edmonton, has been charged with;

· Flight from police

· Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle

· Fraudulent concealment

· Possession of stolen property over $5000

· Possession of a weapon contrary to order (x3)

· Weapons offences (x6)

Norman was taken before a Justice of the Peace and remanded in custody with his next court date set for Feb. 1, 2023 at Stony Plain Provincial Court.
