Airdrie RCMP investigating fatal motor vehicle collision; “lone occupant of the vehicle, who had sustained serious, life threatening injuries”

Airdrie, Alberta – On Feb. 5, 2022, at approximately 10:00 p.m., an Airdrie RCMP officer was travelling northbound on the QEII Hwy near the East Lake Crescent off ramp. The officer was operating a fully marked police vehicle when it was passed by a hatchback sedan travelling northbound at a high rate of speed.

The vehicle exited the QEII Hwy onto the westbound ramp for Veterans Blvd. and the officer activated their emergency equipment. The vehicle drove off the westbound ramp and went across Veteran’s Blvd., before coming to rest on the north side of Veteran’s Blvd.

RCMP, Airdrie Fire and Airdrie EMS removed and treated the driver and lone occupant of the vehicle, who had sustained serious, life threatening injuries. The driver was transported via ground ambulance to the Foothills Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

The driver has been identified as an 18-year-old male resident of Airdrie. Airdrie RCMP are continuing to investigate. Speed is believed to be a contributing factor in this collision.
