Athabasca RCMP recover stolen property; “a number of stolen vehicles were successfully recovered”

Athabasca, Alberta – On Jan. 25, 2023, Athabasca RCMP concluded an in-depth property crimes investigation. As a result of the investigation, a number of stolen vehicles were successfully recovered. In addition, a trailer was recovered which contained a large amount of stolen vehicle parts. Subject to this investigation, Athabasca RCMP have charged several individuals:

Michael Koochin, a 37-year-old resident of Athabasca, was arrested and is facing multiple charges including:

Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000

Remove a vehicle identification number

Possession of a controlled substance

Fraudulent concealment

Possession of property obtained by crime for the purpose of trafficking over $5000

Kelly Morin, a 33-year-old resident of Athabasca, was arrested and is facing multiple charges including:

Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000

Remove a vehicle identification number

Fraudulent concealment

Possession of property obtained by crime for the purpose of trafficking over $5000

Russell Workman, a 58-year-old resident of Athabasca, was arrested and is facing multiple charges including:

Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000

Remove a vehicle identification number

Fraudulent concealment

Possession of property obtained by crime for the purpose of trafficking over $5000

All three individual were held in police custody for judicial hearings. Subject to those hearings, Russell Workman and Michael Koochin were released from police custody with several conditions to abide by. Kelly Morin has been remanded in custody until his next court appearance.
