Calgary, Alberta – We have taken suspects into custody and charges are pending following two complex investigations into an August 2022 shooting in East Village and a December 2022 homicide in Douglasdale.
At approximately 1 p.m. today, Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2022, we made arrests in connection to the fatal shooting of Ashley MAWDSLEY, which occurred on Thursday, Dec. 15, 2022, in the 200 block of Douglas Ridge Circle S.E., as well as a non-fatal shooting which occurred at approximately 12:40 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2022, in the parkade underneath the Real Canadian Superstore, located at 428 Sixth Avenue S.E.
As the investigation into each case progressed, detectives identified individuals with connections to organized crime as those responsible for each incident.
“Despite both shootings being targeted, these offenders demonstrated a complete disregard for public safety and placed members of our community at risk of serious harm or death,” said Staff Sgt. Martin Schiavetta of the Calgary Police Service Homicide Unit. “Both of these shootings occurred at times when people were going about their daily routines. The victimization of Calgarians caused by organized crime violence can have a devastating and lasting impact on innocent bystanders and the community as a whole.”
The identities of the accused will be released once charges are formally laid.
Addressing gun violence continues to be a priority for our Service. Through investigation, prevention, and enforcement activities we have coordinated our resources to reduce victimization and enhance community safety. Our activities continue to rely on strong community support, and we are asking anyone with information to come forward.
Anyone with information about either incident is asked to contact police by calling 403-266-1234. Tips can also be submitted anonymously to Crime Stoppers through any of the following methods:
