Grande Prairie, Alberta – Grande Prairie RCMP advise the multi-vehicle collision on Highway 40 is now clear and open to traffic.

On Feb. 26, 2023, at approximately 7:00 a.m. Grande Prairie responded to a multi-vehicle collision on Highway 40 between Township Road 690 and Township Road 700. Investigation revealed that a northbound semi-truck carrying logs, crossed the center line colliding with a southbound semi- truck. The southbound semi-truck then struck an SUV. The logging truck continued on colliding with another semi truck. The logs from the semi-truck spilled across the highway. A southbound pickup truck was unable to avoid the logs hitting them and ending up in the ditch. Two additional northbound vehicles ended up in the ditch as a result of avoiding the collision.
Tragically, A 59-year-old male resident of Grande Prairie, Alta., the driver and lone occupant of the log truck, was declared deceased on scene. Several people involved in the collision were also injured and attended or were transported to hospital
Grande Prairie RCMP with the assistance of RCMP Collision Reconstructionist continue to investigation the collision.

Grande Prairie RCMP on scene at serious motor vehicle collision – Update
Grande Prairie, Alta. – Grande Prairie RCMP advise they are still on scene at the collision. They expect the road to be impassable for two more hours.
One person was airlifted to an Edmonton hospital via STARS in what is believed to be serious condition. There were 4 semi trucks involved in the collision.
An update will be sent when the road is clear.

Grande Prairie RCMP on scene at serious motor vehicle collision
Grande Prairie, Alta. – Grande Prairie RCMP are currently on scene at a serious motor vehicle collision on Highway 40, approximately 20 minutes south of Grovedale, Alta.
The collision is between a semi truck and a pick-up. RCMP, EMS and Fire are currently on scene. Injuries are unknown at this time. There are numerous logging trucks and semis parked on the side of the road and traffic cannot pass through the area at this time. RCMP are asking motorists to avoid the area.
