Norway House RCMP respond to fatal vehicle-pedestrian collision

Kinosao Sipi Cree Nation, Manitoba – On February 24, 2023, at 5:30 pm, officers from Norway House RCMP received a report of a vehicle-pedestrian collision that occurred on Jack River Road in the community.

Within minutes, EMS, community Band Constables & RCMP arrived on scene and tended to the victim who was pronounced deceased.

Officers were advised that two females, aged 9 and 12, were crossing the road when the 9-year-old was struck by an SUV. The female driver immediately stopped and exited her vehicle where she told the 12-year-old to go call for help. The driver then fled the scene.

While officers were conducting the investigation on scene, they were advised that the driver of the suspect vehicle had returned and wished to turn herself in to police.

The 28-year-old female was placed under arrest for Failure to Stop after Accident and taken into police custody.

The suspect vehicle was located and seized pending further examination.

The 28-year-old was later released from custody for a court appearance scheduled May 4, 2023, in Kinosao Sipi Cree Nation.

Alcohol and/or drugs are not contributing factors in the collision.
