Regina, Saskatchewan – On Thursday, March 2, 2023 at approximately 7:40 a.m., police were dispatched to a report of a firearms offence in the 1400 block of Edward Street. Early information provided to police suggested that a loud bang was heard and a male carrying a firearm was reportedly seen entering a residence on the block.

When police arrived, officers made contact with the individuals inside the residence. Four individuals – three males and one female – came out of the house and were taken into police custody without incident. Police executed a search warrant on the residence and during the course of the search, officers recovered a firearm and ammunition. As a result of investigation, one male is facing multiple firearms-related charges.
Thirty-two year-old Wesley Dwayne TAYPOTAT, of Regina, has been charged with:
Possession of a Firearm Knowing It’s Possession Is Unauthorized [CC 92 (1)];
Possession of a Prohibited/Restricted Firearm With Ammunition [CC 95 (1)(A)];
Careless Storage of a Firearm [CC 86 (2)];
2 X Possession of Firearm or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order [CC 117.01 (1)]; and
Fail To Comply With Probation Order [CC 733.1 (1)].
TAYPOTAT made his first appearance on these charges in Provincial Court this morning (March 3, 2023) at 9:30 a.m.
