Fort McMurray, Alberta – On March 19, 2023, at approximately 2:30 p.m., Wood Buffalo RCMP responded to a report of discovered human remains on the pathway along the Prospect Point Park storm pond in Fort McMurray. Members attended with emergency medical services, a female in her late 30’s was deceased upon arrival.
The scene was secured and the investigation is ongoing. Wood Buffalo RCMP General Investigation Section has assumed carriage of the investigation and is being assisted by RCMP Forensic Identification Services and the Medical Examiner’s office.
An autopsy has been ordered and will be conducted by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Edmonton, Alberta.
The investigation is in the preliminary stages. An update will be provided once new information becomes available.
