Mayerthorpe RCMP investigate fatal motor vehicle collision on Alberta Highway 43

Mayerthorpe, Alberta – On March 26, 2023, at 11:36 a.m., Mayerthorpe RCMP received a report of a two vehicle collision on Highway 43 near Range Road 43. Investigation has revealed that a vehicle crossed the center meridian of the highway where it entered Eastbound traffic and struck the side of an Eastbound Semi. Tragically, a passenger in the vehicle, a 26-year-old male resident of Alexis Nakota Sioux Nation was found deceased at the scene. A second passenger a 19-year-old female resident of Alexis Nakota Sioux Nation was taken to hospital with serious non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the vehicle, a 27-year-old resident of Alexis Nakota Sioux Nation was also taken to hospital with injuries and later released.

The driver of the semi was uninjured.

RCMP remained on scene for several hours while an RCMP traffic analyst assisted with the investigation.

Officers continue the investigation which includes looking at what factor alcohol may have played.
