Athabasca, Alberta – On Feb. 28, 2023, shortly after midnight Athabasca RCMP received a call for service reporting a commercial break and enter in progress in the 2000 block of 48 Ave. Thanks to the fast actions of the business, RCMP members obtained CCTV footage and a suspect description very early into the investigation.

RCMP members responded to the area and located evidence that a break and enter had recently occurred. RCMP members began patrols of the area in an effort to locate the suspect. Officers located a snowblower which had been stolen from the business and staged in a nearby wooded area. While investigating the found property, Athabasca RCMP members observed a male known to police fleeing the area. That male was arrested in relation to this incident.
Kyle Wituk (31), a resident of Athabasca, was arrested and is facing multiple charges including:
Break and Enter with intent to commit an indictable offence
Theft under $5000
Possession of break-in instruments
Mischief over $5000
Following the initial investigation, Kyle Wituk was released on conditions and is scheduled to appear in Athabasca Provincial court on April 17, 2023.
