Police investigating suspicious death in central Edmonton

Edmonton, Alberta – The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) is investigating the suspicious death of a male in central Edmonton.

At approximately 12:55 p.m. on Friday, Mar. 31, 2023, Downtown Branch patrol officers responded to multiple reports of a disturbance in the area of Jasper Avenue and 100 Street. When they arrived, they located an injured, unresponsive male. Police attempted lifesaving measures, and EMS treated and transported the male to hospital, where he was declared deceased.

The EPS Homicide Section has taken over the investigation. A 50-year-old male has been taken into custody. An autopsy is yet to be scheduled.

It was reported that a witness was seen recording the altercation that preceded police response. Investigators are asking that person to come forward, as well as any other witnesses to the events leading up to the death of the male.
