Autopsy in central Edmonton death requires further testing

Edmonton, Alberta – An autopsy into the death of a male that occurred in central Edmonton last week is pending further testing.

At approximately 12:55 p.m. on Friday, Mar. 31, 2023, Downtown Branch patrol officers responded to multiple reports of a disturbance in the area of Jasper Avenue and 100 Street. When they arrived, they located an injured, unresponsive male. Police attempted lifesaving measures, and EMS treated and transported the male to hospital, where he was declared deceased.

On Tuesday, Apr. 4, 2023, the Edmonton Medical Examiner conducted an autopsy on the 34-year-old male victim. The cause and manner of death are pending further testing.

The 50-year-old male who was taken into custody following the altercation has since been released without charges.

EPS Homicide Section continues to lead the investigation.
