Two Canadians arrested returning from Syria

Montreal, Quebec – The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) Federal Policing Integrated National Security Enforcement Team (INSET) arrested Ammara Amjad and Dure Ahmed upon their arrival into the Montreal-Trudeau International Airport.

With the consent of the Attorney General of Canada, the RCMP commenced proceedings against the two individuals by way of a Terrorism Peace Bond, pursuant to Section 810.011 of the Criminal Code.

Amjad and Ahmed appeared in Ontario Provincial Court by video conference for a bail hearing in relation to the Terrorism Peace Bond applications. The matter was adjourned and the individuals remain in custody until their next scheduled court appearance on Tuesday, April 11.

Statement – Arrest of Canadian citizen returning from Syria

Edmonton, Alberta – On April 6, 2023, the RCMP Federal Policing Integrated National Security Enforcement Team (INSET) arrested a 38-year old Canadian at the Montreal-Trudeau Airport. This individual was transported to Alberta and appeared for a bail hearing in relation to a Terrorism Peace Bond application initiated under s.810.011 of the Criminal Code. The individual was released from custody, and is now subject to a number of bail conditions pending the hearing of this application.

As the RCMP criminal investigation remains ongoing, there will be no further comment on this matter at this time.
