First motorcycle fatality of 2023 claims life of 53-year-old male

Edmonton, Alberta – A 53-year-old male motorcyclist has succumbed to injuries sustained during a single-vehicle collision April 9th in northeast Edmonton.

At approximately 2 p.m., Sunday, April 9, 2023, Northeast Branch patrol officers responded to a collision call on Manning Drive near 167 Avenue. A 53-year-old Edmonton man was driving a 1994 Honda GL1500 SE motorcycle northbound on Manning Drive and approaching 167 Ave. when the vehicle driving in front of him suddenly braked to stop for the changing traffic light ahead.

The motorcyclist braked and swerved to the right to avoid striking the vehicle, then subsequently lost control on loose gravel on the shoulder causing him to fall off the motorcycle. Paramedics treated and transported the male to hospital, at that time, with non-life-threatening injuries.

The male’s condition worsened due to medical complications, and he was sadly pronounced deceased in hospital yesterday evening, Friday, April 15, 2023.

EPS Major Collisions Investigation Section has since taken over the investigation.
