Fort Saskatchewan RCMP pursue charges against Red Deer male for mail theft within the city

Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta – On April 12, 2023, just before 10:00 p.m., Fort Saskatchewan RCMP Crime Reduction Unit observed a male in the downtown area of Fort Saskatchewan. The male was found to be Danny Hasnip (37), a resident of Red Deer. Upon his arrest for unrelated matters he was found to have in his possession multiple pieces of mail that was not in his name.

Danny Hasnip has been charged for:

· Theft of mail

· Possession of break in tools

· Illegal possession of government documents (x2)

The Accused was brought before a Justice and released on conditions. He is scheduled for his next court appearance on May 11, 2023 at the Fort Saskatchewan Court of Justice.

The Fort Saskatchewan RCMP has seen a rise in mail theft throughout the city in recent weeks, we would like to assist with some tips in safeguarding yourself against these types of crimes:

· Check mailbox daily, as soon as possible after delivery; this will help decrease the chances of the culprit(s) getting a hold of your mail and personal identification/information

· If you are going out of town, have someone you trust collect your mail daily or contact Canada Post to hold your mail until you return

· Report any mail theft to police

· Report any damage or tampering with the mailbox to Canada Post

· Do not send cash in the mail

· Track your parcels being delivered – arrival dates/times
