Police investigate violent carjacking in British Columbia

West Shore, BC – Shortly after midnight on April 15, the West Shore RCMP responded to a report of a violent assault and carjacking of a taxicab that had taken place near the 2300 block of Sooke Rd in Colwood.

The suspect who is identified as an 18-year-old resident of Colwood, was arrested and has been charged with the following offences:

Assault Causing Bodily Harm;

Assault;

Assaulting a Police Officer;

Mischief to Property under $5000;

Theft of Motor Vehicle.

Police believe there were other witnesses to this violent act that have not come forward and provided their information to police. Specifically, a white vehicle was observed in two separate videos driving past the taxi as the incident is taking place. The vehicle did not stop.

Police are releasing the following two videos in an effort to identify and locate the driver and/or passengers of the white vehicle that drove past the taxi.

Police are asking the driver and/or passengers of the white car to please come forward and speak to investigators. If you were in the white vehicle or you were witness to this incident and have not yet spoken to police, please call the West Shore RCMP at 250-474-2264.

“The taxi driver sustained significant injuries and was taken to hospital. Car jackings like this are rare, as the suspect has been identified and arrested we do not believe there is any on going threat to the public,” said Cpl. Nancy Saggar, West Shore RCMP Media Relations Officer.
