Coquitlam, BC – Coquitlam RCMP is appealing for additional witnesses and video of the suspect and suspect vehicle in a brazen evening shooting that left one man in critical condition on Wednesday, May 17, 2023.
A 37-year-old man was shot while sitting at an outside table in a heavily populated shopping plaza located at David Avenue and Coast Meridian Road in Coquitlam.

“This was a targeted incident in a highly populated area,” said Sergeant Karrie Ellis of the Coquitlam RCMP General Investigation Section. “We are thankful that no one else was injured during this brazen early-evening shooting.”
Investigators have been diligently gathering evidence, including video surveillance from the area.
The suspect is believed to have fled in a stolen grey 2022 Honda Civic Touring which was later found engulfed in flames near Cape Horn Avenue and United Boulevard in Coquitlam.
“We are asking anyone who may have seen the suspect or suspect vehicle, to contact our investigators,” said Sergeant Karrie Ellis. “We are asking anyone who may have residential or dash camera video in the area of Cape Horn Avenue and United Boulevard in Coquitlam from Wednesday, May 17, 2023 between 7:45 p.m. and 8:15 p.m. to contact the Coquitlam RCMP.”

Coquitlam, BC – Coquitlam RCMP is investigating a brazen evening shooting at David Avenue and Coast Meridian Road in Coquitlam that left one man seriously injured.
On Wednesday, May 17, 2023 at 7:30 p.m. responding frontline officers located a man who had suffered life-threating injuries as a result of the shooting. Officers immediately began providing first aid to the victim, who has since been transported to hospital.
“This area was highly populated at the time of the shooting which is very concerning as public safety is our top priority,” said Media Relations Officer for the Coquitlam RCMP, Corporal Alexa Hodgins. “This is believed to be a targeted incident.”
The suspect fled in a silver or grey 4-door sedan.
At 7:50 p.m. police were advised of a vehicle fire in the area of Cape Horn Avenue and United Boulevard in Coquitlam which is believed to be related.
Coquitlam General Investigation Section has assumed conduct of the investigation. Victim Services is engaged.
“Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed this incident or saw a silver or grey coloured 4-door sedan in the area of David Avenue and Coast Meridian Road or Cape Horn Avenue and United Boulevard in Coquitlam to contact our investigators,” said Corporal Alexa Hodgins. “If you have dash-cam or cellphone video from the area or surrounding streets and alleyways of the shooting or vehicle fire between 7:15 p.m. and 8:15 p.m. to please contact the Coquitlam RCMP at 604-945-1550.”
