Breton RCMP and Drayton Valley RCMP investigate fatal motor vehicle collision

Breton, Alberta – On May 20, 2023 at 9:02 P.M., Breton RCMP responded to reports of a hit a run as well as high rates of speed. Due to the location, Breton RCMP requested the assistance of Drayton Valley RCMP.

Drayton Valley, Alberta – On May 20, 2023 at 9:12 P.M., Drayton Valley RCMP who were on the lookout for this vehicle, also responded to reports of a motor vehicle collision along Highway 22 in the area north of the North Saskatchewan River bridge.

Upon arrival, members first on scene located the suspect vehicle initially reported in Breton on fire, and a deceased individual who had been ejected from their vehicle. Preliminary investigation indicates that the vehicle ultimately collided with a semi truck.

The name of the deceased will not be released. The driver of the vehicle from the hit and run, as well as the semi truck were not injured.

The RCMP collision reconstructionist did attend the scene and emergency crews worked on scene for several hours as a result of the collision.

This event is still under active investigation, Drayton Valley RCMP requests any community members in these areas to review any security or dash cam footage available, then contact RCMP should you believe your footage may be of value to this investigation.
