Portage la Prairie, Manitoba – On May 24, 2023, at approximately 1:05 am, Portage la Prairie RCMP were called to a domestic disturbance at an apartment building on Hazel Bay in Portage. Police attended and found the female victim safe in another apartment.
When the officers went to the apartment where the male suspect resided, they were confronted with a weapon. The officers deployed their conducted energy weapons and an officer discharged their firearm. The 18-year-old male suspect, from Portage, was later pronounced deceased on scene.
One officer received minor physical injuries.
The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba has taken carriage of the investigation. No further details will be provided at this time.
