Holyrood, Newfoundland and Labrador – During Canada Road Safety Week (May 16-22, 2023) RCMP Traffic Services East and RNC Traffic Services teamed up and conducted checkpoints and targeted traffic enforcement initiatives focussed on aggressive driving and impaired driving.
Three vehicles were seized for excessive speeding on the Trans-Canada Highway, traveling 154 km/h, 169 km/h and 181 km/h. Checkpoints were conducted in St. John’s, Holyrood, and Spaniard’s Bay with three drivers issued driver’s licence suspensions for alcohol-related offences. One driver failed a roadside breath test, was arrested for impaired driving and provided further breath samples at the detachment that were more than twice the legal limit. The other two drivers provided roadside breath samples that were above the provincial limit for alcohol but below the criminal threshold to support charges of impaired driving.

RCMP and RNC Traffic Services remain committed to highway safety during Canada Road Safety Week and throughout the year.
