Regina Police charge second person in relation to weekend Homicide

Regina, Saskatchewan – The Regina Police Service has charged a second person in relation to a weekend homicide.

On Saturday, May 20th, 2023 at approximately 12:59 p.m., police were dispatched to a residence in the Glen Elm Trailer Court for a report of an injured person. Information received was that an adult was located in a residence and believed to be deceased. Police and EMS arrived and at approximately 1:07 p.m., EMS pronounced the individual deceased, beginning a death investigation. Further investigation into the circumstances of the death determined it to be a homicide.

The victim has been identified as 40 year-old T.J. TANNER, also known as Summer.

A 29 year-old male was charged with second degree murder in relation to the case. As a result of ongoing investigation by the RPS Major Crimes Unit, a second person has been charged.

Thirty-one year-old Vanessa Lynn OKEMAYSIM has been charged with:

• Second Degree Murder [CC 235 (1)];

• Fail to Comply With Probation Order [733.1 (1)].

OKEMAYSIM will make her first court appearance on these charges in Provincial Court this morning (Thursday, May 25, 2023) at 9:30 a.m.

BACKGROUND

The Regina Police Service has laid charges in relation to a weekend homicide.

On Saturday, May 20th, 2023 at approximately 12:59 p.m., police were dispatched to a residence in the Glen Elm Trailer Court for a report of an injured person. Information received was that an adult was located in a residence and believed to be deceased. Police and EMS arrived and at approximately 1:07 p.m., EMS pronounced the individual deceased, beginning a death investigation.

Investigators from the RPS Major Crimes Unit and the Forensic Identification Unit attended to the scene to continue the investigation, in conjunction with the Saskatchewan Coroners Service. Further investigation into the circumstances of the death determined it to be a homicide. This is the third homicide investigation in Regina in 2023.

The victim has been identified as 40 year-old T.J. TANNER, also known as Summer.

As a result of police investigation, 29 year-old Joshua Christopher SHORE, of Regina, has been charged with:

Second Degree Murder [CC 235 (1)]
SHORE made his first court appearance on these charges in Provincial Court on Tuesday, May 23, 2023 at 2:00 p.m.

Police investigation is ongoing.

On Saturday, May 20th, 2023, at approximately 12:59 p.m., police were dispatched to a residence in the Glen Elm Trailer Court for the report of an injured person. Information received was that an adult was located in a residence and was thought to possibly be deceased. Police and EMS arrived and attended to the individual. At approximately 1:07 p.m. EMS pronounced the individual deceased, beginning a death investigation.

Further investigation into the circumstances of the death has determined it to be a homicide.

The deceased individual has been identified as a 40 year-old Regina resident. Next of kin have been notified. The name of the deceased will not be released at this time.
