Body of 12-year-old male recovered from waters of Sturgeon Falls, Manitoba

Whiteshell Provinicial Park , Manitoba – At approximately 1:00 am on May 29, 2023, the body of the 12-year-old male who went into the water at Sturgeon Falls was located and recovered.

Whitemouth RCMP continue to investigate.

BACKGROUND

On May 27, 2023 at 11:44 am, Whitemouth RCMP received a report of a possible drowning at Sturgeon Falls in the Whiteshell Provincial Park.

Officers were advised that a 12-year-old male, from Winnipeg, was last seen climbing down the rocks, when he slipped into the water, and almost immediately went under in the rapids.

A by-stander jumped into the water to provide assistance but could not safely bring him to shore.

The RCMP Underwater Recovery Team, along with assistance from Manitoba Conservation Officers & Manitoba Parks staff, are currently on scene.
