Child Protection detectives investigating attack on 13-year-old girl; Edmonton Police seeking suspect information and witnesses

Edmonton, Alberta – The EPS Child Protection Section is investigating an attack on a 13-year-old girl on Tuesday morning.

On Tuesday, May 30, 2023, police received a report of an attack on a gravel pathway in the area of 76 Avenue and 95 Street. It was reported to police that between 7:45 a.m. and 8 a.m. a 13-year-old girl was walking in the area and had just turned onto a gravel pathway that provides access to Mill Creek Ravine when an unknown male grabbed the back of her neck. The girl was able to break free from his grasp and fled to the safety of her school. A map indicating the approximate location is included below.

The unknown suspect is described as a white male between the ages of 30 and 40 who was approximately 6’0” tall. He reportedly had dark facial hair and a tattoo on his face and was wearing blue jeans and a dark hoodie.

Police continue to investigate and are looking to speak with anyone who may have witnessed the incident or noticed someone matching the suspect’s description in the area.

Detectives do not believe the suspect and youth were known to one another. The 13-year-old girl is receiving support from the Zebra Child Protection Centre.
