Grande Prairie, Alberta – Grande Prairie RCMP Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) have arrested and charged a male after attempting to stop a suspicious vehicle in the downtown core.
On May 24, 2023, at approximately 1:10 p.m., Grande Prairie RCMP CRU attempted to stop a vehicle driving erratically in the area of 102 Street and 101 Avenue. The vehicle fled from the traffic stop at high rate of speed. Police did not pursue due to public safety concerns however; were able to monitor the vehicle from a distance until it stopped in the Pinnacle Ridge area.

The driver was arrested after he exited the vehicle. During a search incidental to arrest police located a firearm within reach of the driver, as well as multiple rounds of ammunition throughout the vehicle.
Koang Mach (43), a resident of Grande Prairie, has been charged with the following offences:
· Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
· Flight from police
· Possession of a firearm or ammunition while prohibited x2
· Fail to comply with a release order x3
· Careless storage of a firearm
· Unauthorized possession of a firearm
· Unauthorized possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle x2
Following a judicial interim release hearing, Mach was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in Grande Prairie Provincial Court on June 7, 2023.
