Maskwacis, Alberta – On June 3, 2023, just after 10 p.m., Maskwacis RCMP received a report of a stabbing that had occurred at a residence in Samson Cree Nation. Upon arrival, RCMP located a victim with serious injuries. Police attempted to administer first aid to the victim and called EMS. Sadly, upon EMS arrival, the victim who has been identified as a 34-year-old male resident of Maskwacis was deceased. Officers quickly located and arrested a suspect.
The Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit was dispatched and have taken carriage of the investigation with the assistance of Maskwacis RCMP.
RCMP have charged Ian Lawrence Saddleback (41), with second-degree-murder.
Saddleback has been taken before a Justice of the Peace and remanded in custody with his next court date set for June 6, 2023, at the Alberta Court of Justice in Wetaskiwin.
As this matter is now before the courts, no further updates will be provided.
