Saskatoon Police Issue Large Fine Under Tobacco Tax Act

Saskatoon, Saskatchewan – One man is facing a substantial fine following a traffic stop last night.

At approximately 8:45 p.m., June 4, 2023, Patrol officers observed a grey SUV make a sudden and illegal turn across a solid yellow line in the 1400 block of Central Avenue. A traffic stop was conducted in a nearby parking lot. Upon speaking to the driver and lone occupant of the vehicle, officers observed numerous packages of large quantities of un-stamped tobacco products hidden beneath blankets. Inside the vehicle, police located and seized just over 58,000 cigarettes (photos attached).

A 31-year-old man received a $34,487.60 ticket under The Tobacco Tax Act along with a traffic ticket.
