Winnipeg, Manitoba – The RCMP Major Crime Unit have identified a suspect in relation to the homicide that occurred on June 6, 2023, in Sandy Bay Ojibway First Nation. On June 7, 2023, a warrant of arrest was obtained for 26-year-old Shawn Owen Spence, of Sandy Bay Ojibway First Nation. He is WANTED for:
First Degree Murder
Possession of a Firearm While Prohibited
Possession of a Firearm knowing its Possession is Unauthorized.
RCMP are currently in the area actively looking for him, but he remains at large.
Shawn Spence is considered armed and dangerous. Do not approach and call police immediately if seen. He resides on Sandy Bay Ojibway First Nation and is known to frequent Ebb and Flow First Nation.
He is 6’3″, 180 lbs with brown hair and brown eyes. He has a tattoo of the Pittsburgh Penguins logo on the left side of his neck.

BACKGROUND
On June 6, 2023, at approximately 6:30 am, the Manitoba First Nations Police Service (MFNPS) responded to a shooting outside a residence on Sandy Bay Ojibway First Nation.
A 39-year-old male was pronounced deceased at the scene.
MFNPS contacted the RCMP for assistance.
The RCMP Major Crime Unit, Forensic Identification Unit, and the Emergency Response Team are currently in the community investigating.
This does not appear to be a random incident.
