Southern Albert District Crime Reduction Unit recover stolen property and charge two suspects from Brooks

Raymond, Alberta – In June of 2023, the RCMP Southern Alberta District Crime Reduction Unit (SAD CRU) was engaged to assist Brooks and Redcliff RCMP detachments in investigating an ongoing property crime spree that was occurring throughout south eastern Alberta.

During the course of this investigation, Travis Douglas Seitz and Brook Ashley Mintz were identified in multiple vehicles that were stolen during the ongoing spree, however, they were able to evade arrest fleeing from police recklessly at high rates of speed.

On July 5, 2023, SAD CRU located a stolen vehicle at a rural property near Redcliff, Alta. When police entered the location, the suspects drove the stolen truck through a fence, narrowly missing police officers, to escape. A subsequent search warrant conducted on the property uncovered two stolen trucks, and three stolen trailers with an estimated value of $300,000.

As well, during the course of the investigation, an additional holiday trailer stolen out of Dunmore, Alta., and a truck stolen out of Taber, Alta., were also recovered.

On July 11, 2023, SAD CRU, with the assistance of RCMP Emergency Response Team, RCMP Air Services, RCMP Police Dog Services and Brooks RCMP General Investigative Services, located and arrested Seitz and Mintz near Raymond. Upon arrest, Seitz and Mintz were in possession of a stolen holiday trailer, a stolen truck, and stolen property from two commercial break and enters which occurred in Red Cliff.

Travis Douglas Seitz (32), a resident of Brooks, has been charged with the following:

Possession of stolen property over $5000 (x2)

Possession of stolen property under $5000

Fail to comply with probation order (x3)

Brooke Ashley Mintz (28), a resident of Brooks, has been charged with the following:

Possession of stolen property over $5000 (x2)

Possession of stolen property under $5000

Fail to comply with probation order (x4)

At the time of his arrest, Seitz was wanted on arrest warrants for similar offences out of Brooks, Taber, Medicine Hat and Drumheller. After a judicial interim release hearing, Seitz was remanded into custody and will be appearing in Alberta Court of Justice in Taber on July 18, Lethbridge, Brooks and Medicine Hat on July 19 and Drumheller on July 21.

At the time of her arrest, Mintz was serving a jail sentence in the community on a conditional sentence order as a result of criminal convictions for similar offences. After a judicial interim release hearing, Mintz was remanded into custody and will be appearing in Alberta Court of Justice in Lethbridge and Brooks on July 19.
