Brook RCMP investigate shooting at local night club – UPDATED

Brooks, Alberta – On Aug. 24, 2023, at approximately 1:09 a.m., Brooks RCMP responded to a 911 call of a disturbance at a local night club and upon arrival. Upon arrival, it was discovered a male had been shot. The male is currently in a Calgary hospital and is considered to be in stable condition.

Investigation has revealed that this was an accidental discharge of a firearm. Video surveillance shows the victim showing his firearm to another person when it discharged and he shot himself. No other people were injured.

The investigation continues and charges are pending.

BACKGROUND

Brooks, Alberta – On Aug. 24, 2023, at approximately 1:09 a.m., Brooks RCMP responded to a 911 call of a disturbance at a local night club. RCMP attended and were told that a 45-year-old male, a Brooks resident, had been taken to the hospital with a gun shot wound. The male suffered significant injury and was flown to a Calgary hospital.

The investigation is in it’s early stages but information suggests this is an isolated incident and there is no risk to the public.
