36-year-old man arrested in connection with counterfeit money investigation

St. Stephen , New Brunswick – The St. Stephen RCMP has arrested a 36-year-old man from Honeydale, N.B., following an investigation into the use of counterfeit money in the St. Stephen area.

On August 25, 2023, at approximately 10:45 a.m., members of the St. Stephen RCMP began to receive a series of reports from businesses local to the St. Stephen area that a man had been using counterfeit American bills to purchase goods.

Approximately one hour later, police located the man in a vehicle on Union Street, in St. Stephen. The driver, a 36-year-old man from Honeydale, was arrested at the scene. Subsequent to the arrest, police seized a total of $540 in counterfeit bills, and recovered the property that was obtained using the counterfeit money.

The man was later released, and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.

The investigation is ongoing.
