Airdrie RCMP investigate fraud; “in custody and he needed $8500 for bail”

Airdrie, Alberta – On Sept. 6, 2023, at approximately 1 p.m., Airdrie RCMP were dispatched to a report of a scam (fraud). The male victim received a call from someone who sounded like his son. The victim was told the RCMP had him (the son) in custody and he needed $8500 for bail. The caller said they would send two police officers to the victims house to retrieve the money. They even provided a false name and badge number. On a different call, the victim was told officers could not attend but a private carrier would be sent and he would use the code word “Blue” to get the money.
