Airdrie RCMP arrest male following firearms call; “officers heard a gunshot from inside the residence”

Rocky View County, Alberta – On Sept. 2, 2023, at approximately 2:20 a.m., Airdrie RCMP responded to a residence in Butte Valley Estates, regarding a firearms complaint. The complainant indicated someone inside the residence fired a gun. A shelter in place was issued for Butte Valley Estates residents.

RCMP attended and upon arrival, officers heard a gunshot from inside the residence. Officers could see that a window of the residence had been shot out, with a hole the size of a dinner plate in the glass. Officers ran into the treeline to take cover and called for back-up.

Back-up arrived, including the Emergency Response Team (ERT). The suspect surrendered to police and exited the residence, and was arrested.

A search warrant was executed at the scene and a forensic exam was conducted. A Mossberg 12 gauge pump action shotgun was seized at the scene.

Routly was remanded into custody. He appeared in Alberta Court of Justice in Airdrie on Sept. 7, 2023 and was remanded until court in Diamond Valley for Sept. 12.
