Wetaskiwin RCMP charge two males with firearms related crime

Wetaskiwin, Alberta – On August 31, 2023, RCMP’s Wetaskiwin Crime Reduction Unit observed a vehicle driving erratically in the City of Wetaskiwin. With the assistance of general duty officers, a traffic stop was initiated with the vehicle. As a result of the traffic stop, Wetaskiwin RCMP seized a prohibited firearm in the motor vehicle along with two loaded magazines.

Two occupants of the vehicle, Joe Gandman (31), a resident of Wetaskiwin, and Darrell Saunter (46), a resident of Edmonton, were arrested.

Gandam was charged with 6 firearms offences.

Gandam was released on a release order to appear at the Alberta Court of Justice in Wetaskiwin on Sept. 28, 2023.

Saunter was charged with:

· Breaching conditions of parole

· Firearms offences (x6)

· Dangerous driving

· Fail to comply with firearm prohibition

Saunter was taken before a justice of the peace and remanded into custody and will appear at the Alberta Court of Justice in Wetaskiwin on Sept. 14, 2023.
