Calgary Police investigate fatal shooting in Capitol Hill, identify victim

Calgary, Alberta – The victim of a fatal shooting that occurred on Saturday, Sept. 9, 2023, in the community of Capitol Hill has been identified.

Following an autopsy completed today, Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2023, by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, the victim has been identified as 33-year-old Jordan JACQUES-VETTEN of Calgary.

Investigators are looking to speak to anyone who may have information or who was in contact with Jordan anytime on Friday, Sept. 8, 2023, or in the early morning hours of Saturday, Sept. 9, 2023, prior to his death.

The red Pontiac Sunfire that was seen in the area at the time of the incident has been located. Thank you to the media and the public for your assistance.

This is Calgary’s 14th homicide of 2023.

BACKGROUND

Calgary, Alberta – Our Homicide Unit is investigating a fatal shooting that occurred this morning in the northwest community of Capitol Hill.

At approximately 3:50 a.m. today, Saturday, Sept. 9, 2023, we responded to reports of a person in medical distress outside of a residence in the 1700 block of 18 Avenue N.W. Upon arrival, officers located a man suffering from what appeared to be gunshot wounds. The man was declared deceased at the scene.

An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2023, at 9 a.m.

Investigators are looking for a red, early 2000s Pontiac Sunfire sedan that was seen in the area at the time of the incident.

Anyone who believes they may have information about the vehicle or incident, including CCTV or dashcam footage from the community of Capitol Hill between 3:30 – 4 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 9, 2023, is asked to contact police by calling 403-266-1234.
