Suspect in Richmond shooting investigation arrested

Richmond, BC – Richmond RCMP arrest alleged suspect in shooting investigation.

At approximately 9:20 am on September 14, 2023 Richmond RCMP arrested an alleged suspect in a shooting that occurred on July 23, 2023.

Richmond RCMP General Investigation Section with the assistance of the Lower Mainland Integrated Emergency Response Team arrested the suspect in the 15000 block of 59A Ave in Surrey.

Ensuring public safety is our number one priority, says Staff Sargent Gene Hsieh, Major Crime Commander, Due to the high-risk nature of the offences under investigation, our investigative team worked collaboratively with the Lower Mainland Integrated Emergency Response Team. The suspect was ultimately arrested without incident.

The incident took place at approximately 11:08 pm on July 23 outside of a business located in the 8500 block of Sea Island Way. The incident was reported to Richmond RCMP the following morning.

A witness reported that three males were inside of a ride-share vehicle when one of the males took out a firearm and discharged it two to three times out of the window.

Richmond RCMP General Investigation Section took immediate conduct of the investigation and gathered a multitude of evidence, resulting in the subsequent identification and arrest of the suspect.

“Fortunately, no one was injured but these types of reckless acts undermine the safety and security of our community,” says Inspector Michael Cohee, Officer-in-Charge of Investigative Services “Our investigative team conducted a comprehensive investigation leading to the identification and subsequent arrest of the suspect. This is a terrific outcome in our efforts to keep our City safe and reducing further crimes.”

The investigation remains active and ongoing.
