Wood Buffalo RCMP investigate suspicious death along Gregoire Lake, north of Highway 881 – UPDATED

For McMurray, Alberta-  The Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit and Wood Buffalo RCMP continues its investigation into a suspicious death along Gregoire Lake reported on Sept. 14, 2023. The deceased was taken to the office of the Chief Medical Examiner who has deemed the death as a homicide.

RCMP are releasing the name and a photo of the deceased in hopes that members of the public can provide tips to assist in the investigation. The deceased has been identified at 17-year-old Keelin Kortzman.

RCMP are again asking to speak to and or request vehicle dash cam footage from those individuals who were travelling on Highway 881 through Fort McMurray 468 First Nation (Gregoire Lake Reserve) and Anzac, Alta. on Thursday Sept. 14, 2023, between 6 a.m., and 11 a.m.

BACKGROUND

Fort McMurray, Alberta – Wood Buffalo RCMP and Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit are investigating a suspicious death that occurred along Gregoire Lake, North of Highway 881. Wood Buffalo RCMP, along with Fort McMurray Fire and EMS, responded to a call for assistance at 9:30 p.m. on Sept. 14, 2023. Upon arrival, a deceased male was found along the lake. The investigation is continuing with assistance from Wood Buffalo RCMP General Investigations Services, Forensic Identification Services and Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit.

An autopsy has been scheduled at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Edmonton early next week. RCMP remain at the scene.
